The first thing you have to do when you are considering repainting your kitchen cupboards is by cleaning it. To clean your kitchen cupboards, you first need to remove its contents and place it in another container. You have to remember that when you are going to repaint your kitchen cupboards, you will not be able to use your kitchen for a few days because of the smell and the fumes that the chemicals you use will give off.

The best way to remove the decades of grime in your kitchen cupboard is by using a steel wool and full strength ammonia on it. The ammonia will be able to wash off the grime effectively and dull the finish. The steel wool will be able to help you on removing the finish off the cupboard. Always remember to wear protective gloves and eyewear to protect you from the ammonia.

The next step is by washing the kitchen cupboards with water and letting it dry completely. The next step is perhaps one of the most important steps that you will take when repainting your kitchen cupboards. By applying primer on the kitchen cupboard, it will be able to make the paint you will apply a long time.

After applying the primer and letting it dry completely, you can now begin painting it with the color of your choice. You can consider painting it with a good quality spray paint. It is important to remember that you should not use the newly painted kitchen cupboard for a few days as there will still be paint fumes getting out from it. It is also important that you should do the whole repainting project in a well ventilated area to get you some fresh air and avoid inhaling toxic fumes.

If you are painting kitchen cabinet doors then you may need a melamine primer, remove all the doors and preferably hinges too (you might want to tag each hinge top and bottom for each door otherwise you will have to reajust all the doors after) lay doors out and use a small roller in a dust free area take your time and you will achieve a professional finish. You could take your doors to a professional spray shop if you are nervouse of finishing them yourself.

Make sure that the surfaces to be painted are clean, dry and free from dirt, grease etc. The melamine must be in good condition and not damaged. Remove the door knobs or handles and put them in a safe place - unless you want to update your kitchen or bathroom with new ones. Just changing the knobs can make a massive difference to a room and there are some lovely ones available now.

For best results, lightly scuff the tile surface with wet dry abrasive paper and a solution of water and washing up liquid. Rinse with clean water and allow to dry before painting.

For best results, use Dulux Cupboard Paint is 10x Tougher than conventional satin. It gives you a durable hard wearing finish for your cupboards. It is self undercoating, quick drying and recoatable within 6 hours.

Stir the paint thoroughly with a palette knife or similar implement before use and do not thin it, even if it is a bit sticky to apply. Apply 1 or 2 coats of Dulux Cupboard Paint using a synthetic brush. This will provide the best results in terms of the brush marks showing. Apply the paint liberally and evenly to avoid runs and sags. Do not overspread the paint or it will look patchy. Where a strong colour change is involved, 2 or more coats may be required. Allow 6 hours drying time between coats. For best results, lightly sand the surface between coats. Allow 4 hours drying time between coats.

You should not use the paint when the room temperature is below 10°C or in damp, humid conditions. If the surface becomes marked, use a non-abrasive household cleaner or a soft damp cloth or sponge to clean the surface.
