Repairing chewed kitchen cabinets
Wednesday, 26 March 2008 03:16

Q:Our dogs chewed on the bottom corners of our kitchen cabinets. They're wood, not painted. Is there any way to restore this so the cabinets look like new again?

I was thinking I could patch them and then cover the whole side of the cabinet with a thin piece of material that matchest the rest of the cabinets. No clue if that's possible or how to get started (where to buy supplies, etc). I've never done any kind of cabinet repair, so please word your reply for a complete newbie!

A:If cabinets are relatively new, you may be able to order replacement doors if you know the brand. DIY repair will likely be noticeable. It takes a furniture refinisher or cabinet builder with expert finishing skills to try to make the cabinet doors look like new or make replacement doors. If sides of end cabinets are damaged, it is possible to cover with furniture grade plywood and stain and finish for a near match.
