The look of your kitchen depends largely on the kind of cabinets that have been installed. If they wear a look of being worn out and drab, then the whole look of the kitchen is severely affected. If you want to change the dated look of your kitchen cabinets, you have quite a few options to actually fall back on. They can be quite expensive if you are looking for something extravagant. However, There are many ways to refresh the look of your kitchen without having to break the bank.  Should your kitchen need a little sprucing up, here are some ideas to consider:

1.  Refinishing – sand off your existing kitchen cabinet finish and apply a new coat of stain or paint. You can choose any color you want, it is not too much of a hassle, you can do it yourself, and it will also add to the durability of your cabinets. You can paint them a somber white or a flashy turquoise - whichever way you want to. You can even experiment with designs using a stencil.

2. Refacing – remove cabinet facing or door fronts and replace with newer, more up-to-date designs.

3. Updating – replace existing door hardware and knobs.  There are hundreds of designs available to work with any desired style.  Invest a little on matching hardware and you have almost a new cabinet. And you spend something around $300.

If you want to update your kitchen cabinets without having to replace them, consider some of the suggestions above.  Sprucing up your kitchen cabinets doesn’t have to cost a lot of money.
