Kitchen Cabinet Remodeling Choices
Kitchen cabinets and countertops are usually the most expensive components in a kitchen remodeling project. There are literally hundreds of cabinet choices out there and getting familiar with them is the first step.

When you plan on remodeling your kitchen cabinets, you must first identify the kitchen design style that you want and the overall theme of your house. If you're not sure exactly what style your home is, then we suggest that you do some research online and browse through several design magazines. Once you have determined the style of your home, it will narrow down your kitchen cabinet choices.

The next step you will need to think about is how much space you can allocate to your kitchen cabinets. Are you planning on remodeling the existing space or expanding the area? As soon as you get a good feel for spacing, you should put together a rough floor plan. When drafting the floor plan, make sure that you measure the dimensions of the room correctly. The more detailed and accurate the floor plan, the easier it will be for you to find suitable kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen cabinets come in a variety of types, including stock, semi-custom, and custom. Stock cabinets as their name suggests come only in standard sizes and shapes. Stock cabinets generally have very few options that you can add or remove. The benefits of stock cabinets are their price and fast delivery times. Semi-custom cabinets are a little pricier than stock cabinets and offer additional customization options. Custom cabinets are the most expensive and can basically be designed to your exact specifications. Custom cabinets might be your only option if the space you allocated for your cabinets is somewhat unique. With custom cabinets you can customize with wine racks, spice racks, chopping blocks, dovetailed drawers, etc.

When looking for cabinets at various retail establishments, make sure that you test and feel the construction quality. You should be looking for solid and smooth construction of the drawers, frames, and doors. Make sure that you ask the sales representatives about the differences in oak, birch, cherry, maple, etc. Woods can vary significantly in terms of price, color, texture, weight, resistance, etc. The type of wood you ultimately choose may also be a factor of where you live. Some woods are more resistant to moisture and harsh weather than others.

Once you have seen various cabinets and the options available to you, you should figure out what options you definitely need that still fit within your remodeling budget. With cabinet size, wood, and options in hand, you are ready to start comparison shopping. You should definitely look for cabinet prices both online and at retail establishments. With online retailers, make sure that you also factor in the cost of delivery. Around the same time you are going to place your kitchen cabinet order, you should begin requesting kitchen remodeling quotes from professional contractors.
