Kitchen Cabinet Advisories -Warping,Cracking & Proper Humidity

Under normal conditions all wood products contain some moisture. Quality cabinets products are manufactured from wood or wood products that have been dried to an appropriate moisture content and have been inspected for warpage of 1/16" per lineal foot or less.

Wood readily exchanges moisture with the water vapor in the atmosphere according to the existing relative humidity. Uncontrolled extremes (below 25% or above 55% relative humidity) can likely cause warping. In high humidity wood picks up moisture and swells. In low relative humidity, wood releases moisture and shrinks.

This subsequent dimensional change in wood is and always has been an inherent natural property of wood and wood products. Under normal conditions these changes will have little or no effect on your cabinets. However, care should be taken to protect cabinets from extreme conditions. These changes cannot be the responsibility of the manufacturer.
