Q: I am about to install my new cabinets in a few weeks. Is there anything special I am suppose to do as far as the cabinets next to the stove? How much of a space should there be on each side?
A: Standard stove requires 30" of space. If you bought a larger stove, then the gap would be larger. Whoever did your kitchen design should give you a copy of the layout to go by.It's always best to know the size of appliances before doing the kitchen design. The standard stove space is 30", but...

Q: I need to replace the kitchen cabinets in a seasonal use 1972 MH. I was thinking of just making the cabinets, but I am concerned about the weight of the uppers. I think the studs are only 2X2's. I was thinking about just removing the paneling behind the existing cabinets and replacing with 3/4 CDX plywood. My thinking was that I could transfer some of the weight from the uppers directly to the floor. I'm not sure if I can attach to the ceiling, the existing cabinets are not. Any suggestions? |

Q: I want to wipe the stickiness off my kitchen cabinets with mineral spirits but I don't understand what that will do. Will I then have to recoat with poly? I have dark wood cabinets that I just want to spruce up. There are a few areas where the handles are that are sticky and the stain is rubbed off. They look pretty darn good except these few spots. Can I just clean them off with mineral spirits? Does that take the sheen off and then I have to put it back on? There are a lot of...

Q:We are finalizing kitchen remodel plans and are now addressing the under cabinet lights (to be installed by me). I'm trying to plan it completely now. It looks like we'll probably use xenon lights of some form but don't yet know if they will be 120V, 12V, or 24V. Ideally there will be 2 independently switched circuits, 1 for each bank of cabinets. Here are some of the issues: |

Q: We currently have a bank of cabinets that separate the kitchen from the dining room. This unit is rougly 6' long by 30" deep, and have cabinets on both sides (18" deep on one side and 12" deep on the other). We are removing these cabinets during our upcoming remodel. We are also putting a stair case, with a half wall, to the basement in the kitchen. Along the half wall, we are planning for a future set of cabinets (can't afford to put them in right now). The future cabs will be 10' long...
