Cabinet knobs, especially kitchen cabinet knobs, are very important pieces of hardware. But cabinet knob placement is an issue for many, as some people just don't know exactly where to place the knob on the cabinet door. Kitchen cabinet knobs and pulls can be installed professionally, if you use a handy template and the right tools. here are some guidelines.
1. There are some who paint carefully around the hardware as they paint their cabinets. However, you would still inevitably have some paint on your least one of the hardware pieces. And so, you would end up having to take the hardware off so you could clean it. You would also need to repair any marks which you have made as you try to get the paint out of the hardware. You could save a lot of time and effort be taking any knobs as well as the hardware off beforehand.
2. Do not just go guessing as to which knobs would fit. Though you might already have a good idea of what the size hardware you need to replace, you must not buy a new set if you are unsure. Although some knobs look very similar, there could be a little difference, which would result in the knob not fitting properly. Make sure that you would be bringing along the knob or drawer pull that you would be replacing to use as a reference as you shop for the replacements. Now if you really want to be sure that the new hardware would fit perfectly you could bring along the cabinet door itself.
3. It is also quite possible that you have planned everything perfectly, but the fit of your new cabinet hardware is not so perfect on your cabinet door. You realize that it is a little wobbly. You could try using a smaller screw and check if it would be able to fill the gap. Another option would be to look for a washer which would be able to fit behind the knob so it could fill up the space and obtain a more even fit.
4. Now if you are installing cabinet door knobs to replace door pulls, you could only fit the one hole that would be left. What you could do with the other hole would be to fill it with putty and then sand it and then repaint the cabinet door.
Cabinet knobs are a great example of a utilitarian item found in just about every home that is a crossover between function and form. The knob performs a very important job by allowing you to easily open a cabinet door. But at the same time, the knob needs to look good , and more importantly, its placement on the door must look right.
